Fraser HornThe College of Optometry at Pacific University is an amazing and dynamic program, where we focus on an advanced education that allows our students to be successful and make a difference. We want our students to have a broad understanding of our profession by capitalizing on the collective intelligence within our program, while allowing our students to follow their passion.

At the College of Optometry, we have developed a community where members feel supported and valued. Our student clubs provide opportunities for students to connect and build community. Our faculty and staff are invested in your success and welcome the opportunity to get to know our students.

As Dean of the College of Optometry, my goal is to ensure that Pacific University College of Optometry continues to be a leader in optometric education, through a diverse program that helps to advance our profession and our community. Academic Programs

In the Pacific University College of Optometry, world-renowned faculty and diverse clinical sites prepare tomorrow’s doctors of optometry. 

The College of Optometry offers a doctor of optometry program and residency programs in multiple specialties. We also offer a master of science in vision science program and a PhD in vision science program that prepare students for teaching and/or research in the ophthalmic industry.

Pacific EyeClinics

The College of Optometry operates EyeClinics and EyeTrends opticals throughout the Portland area. The eye clinics give students the chance to practice their skills and serve their community. Our students also are involved in outreach locally through our community partners and schools. Students have the opportunity to provide outreach around the world through our partnership with AMIGOS eyecare (Student VOSH).

Continuing Education

The college also has a strong tradition of providing continuing education to help optometric physicians meet their requirements for license renewal. Optometrists can earn continuing education credits in person at our annual conferences or online.

Pacific University College of Optometry prepares highly competent practitioners and vision scientists by prioritizing inclusive, diverse educational experiences while advancing professional and ethical eye care, scholarship, and service.

Goals and Objectives

  • Goal 1: Pacific University College of Optometry will provide diverse educational opportunities in an environment that supports and values each student as they strive to acquire a firm foundation in the basic and clinical sciences. Combined with clinical and interprofessional experiences, students receive the education necessary to become successful optometric physicians.
  • Goal 2: Graduates of Pacific University College of Optometry will consistently demonstrate high levels of professional competency including the ability to critically apply information.
  • Goal 3: Pacific University College of Optometry will engage in and provide diverse educational opportunities in an environment that supports and values each student as they strive to acquire a firm foundation in the basic and advanced vision sciences.

Accreditation

The optometry doctorate and residency programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education, 243 N. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63141; 314-991-4100; 314-991-4101 (fax). This program meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in these U.S. states and territories.
