The Choral Project Choir provides an enriching musical experience designed to complement and enhance the vocal education students receive in their school ensembles—or to serve as a primary choral opportunity for those in schools without existing programs. Participating musicians will engage in diverse, challenging, and exciting choral repertoire and receive focused instruction in vocal technique in both individual and group settings.

This program is led by Pacific University’s Bachelor of Music Education students, who gain valuable, hands-on teaching experience under the mentorship of Dr. Katy Green, Assistant Professor of Music Education and Director of Choral Activities. Through this collaborative structure, young musicians benefit from personalized vocal training and musical growth, while Pacific students deepen their pedagogical skills and gain practical experience working with diverse learners.

Together, the Choral Project Choir fosters a vibrant, supportive environment where musical learning and leadership develop side by side—offering lasting benefits for both the singers and the emerging music educators guiding them.

NEW! OMEA 9-12 All-State Audition Preparatory Workshop

Saturday, September 27 from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.(Limit: 15 Students)
Open to Students Participating in Their School Choirs

Register

Cost: $30.00
This workshop is designed to directly support the work of high school choral teachers by providing students with additional, focused preparation for their All-State auditions. Participants will receive instruction in group, small group, and one-on-one settings to improve confidence and preparation in all aspects of the audition process.

Led by Dr. Katy Green, Assistant Professor of Music Education and Director of Choral Activities, and Pacific University’s Bachelor of Music Education students, this workshop will guide musicians through identifying the most appropriate voice part for the audition, learning and rehearsing the required audition materials, and building comfort with each portion of the audition.

As part of the workshop, students will also have the opportunity to record their audition individually, with real-time coaching from Dr. Green and/or BME students. MP3 recordings will be provided to each student immediately following the session, ready for upload into Opus by the student’s high school choral director.

Our Mission Statement

The Pacific University Choir Project is dedicated to:

  • Improving the quality of choir teachers’ preparation through integrated learning.
  • Providing quality and affordable vocal and choral education to school-age students of all socio-economic and racial backgrounds.
  • Enhancing the quality of life in the community.

For Our Students and Parents

Students in first through 12th grade learn how to explore and control their voices from our teachers-in-preparation and our master teacher. Students receive instruction in group classes and in individual lessons. Each meeting every week for 12 weeks will enable students to progress from a beginner to an intermediate and advanced vocalist. Each semester, students perform in two public performances here at Pacific University.

We offer numerous ways for our students to grow as musicians such as:

  • Elementary Choir
  • Middle School Choir
  • High School Choir
  • Private lessons

For Our Teachers

The teachers in Choral Project are college students who are interested in learning to teach younger students how to sing. Student-teachers in Choral Project take pedagogy classes and meet regularly with the master teacher, who supervises and advises their weekly classes. They are actively involved in recruitment and communication with parents and they help plan public performances each semester. Students are paid for their preparation and teaching time, and they gain experience and develop their expertise in teaching music in learning environments that mimic public school choirs. The Choral Project at Pacific University is open to ALL students who are in one of Pacific University's choirs, regardless of major/minor.
