In the 2023-2024 academic year, the School of Pharmacy disseminated $124,250 in various scholarship and hardship funds to the students enrolled in our programs. Thirty-two incoming PharmD first-year students enrolled in the 3-year or 5-year PharmD programs received various levels of one-time Academic Merit Award Scholarships ranging from Dean’s Award to School of Pharmacy Award, all totaled, $97,000.
The end of the year was very special for us as our first class just completed our new PharmD curriculum and was ready to graduate. The Class of 2024 was the first class that was enrolled in our new integrated semester-based curriculum that launched in Fall 2021.
It has been 15 years since our Inaugural Class of 2009 graduated from Pacific University School of Pharmacy!  Since we just hooded the latest Class of 2024 and sent them on their way into the world of pharmacy, we thought it would be great to touch bases with one of our alumni that graduated in 2009.
On April 1, 2024 Pacific University School of Pharmacy hired a new Assistant Professor, Dr. Katie Steele, PharmD, BCACP.  Dr. Steele received her PharmD in 2015 and brings with her a strong focus in ambulatory care, cultural competency, underserved populations, patient education, mentorship and post-graduate education.  We caught up with her and asked her some key questions to learn more about her and her background, why she wanted to join Pacific University and some interesting personal fun facts!
On May 15, 2024, Pacific University School of Pharmacy held its annual Research Symposium, featuring talks and poster presentations by PharmD and joint PharmD/Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences students.
It is pharmacy postgraduate Residency Match season and the national results are in for both the first and second phases of the Match. On March 13th and April 10th, our PharmD Class of 2024 and alumni achieved a combined match rate of 90% for Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) National Matching System (NMS)-listed programs. This continues the strong performance of last year. These are wonderful results when nearly 50% of the graduating class will be pursuing postgraduate education.
In July 2023, Dr. Nathan Doctor joined our faculty team here at a Pacific University School of Pharmacy. Now that one full semester has gone by and we're now mid-way through spring semester, we thought we'd catch up with him, ask him a few questions and find out how things are going!
We believe that international experiences help our Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students at Pacific University School of Pharmacy develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to broaden their horizons related to differences in healthcare between the U.S. and other countries, immerse in a different culture and language, and explore understandings of health, thus providing them an invaluable opportunity to grow as global healthcare professionals.
