Welcome to Pacific University! We are thrilled to have you join our vibrant community. New Student Orientation (NSO) is designed to help you transition smoothly into university life. Orientation Overview

New Student Orientation | Over these four days, you will engage in a variety of required sessions and optional social activities. These programs are designed to introduce you to campus resources, academic expectations, and the Pacific University community. Participation in NSO is a requirement of matriculation to Pacific University. JUMP TO FULL ORIENTATION SCHEDULE

Required Sessions | These sessions are mandatory for all new students and cover essential information to ensure a successful start at Pacific University. Sessions labeled as [Required Session] are mandatory components of the program. All other sessions are optional participation (but highly recommended).

Optional Social Activities | While these activities are not mandatory, they are highly encouraged as they provide excellent opportunities to meet fellow students and start building your Pacific University network. 

Parent & Family Orientation | We recognize the important role that families play in the success of our students. Our Parent & Family Programming is designed to provide parents and guardians with information and resources to support their students during their time at Pacific University and we invite you to join us on August 22 and 23, 2024. Students and families are encouraged to say your final goodbyes at Sign, Shake and Ring on Friday; this concludes the Family Orientation Program. Parent & family programming ends by 6:00 p.m.

 

New Student Orientation Schedule

EARLY ARRIVAL 1 // WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14 (Football)

9:00 -11:00 a.m. | Check-in for Students & Families & Sign, Shake & Ring [Required Session]Check-in Tent on Marsh West Lawn  - Students first stop upon arrival should be the NSO check-in tent to pick up your student ID, room key, nametag, and more. Families/guests will check in at the same tent as students to obtain their guest information, resources, and have an opportunity to meet Student Affairs staff.  

The tent opens at 9:00 a.m. Please reference the PACU Move-In Day Guide (available July) for more information about driving directions to residence halls and details for parking. Students who arrive early for Fall Athletics are also required to check-in at the NSO tent on August 22 to receive their NSO materials. 

9:15 - 11:00 a.m. | New Student Move-in [Required Session], Residence Halls Around Campus - After you have checked in for NSO, you can then proceed to your residence hall for move-in. To ensure a smooth move-in process, please follow all posted signs and any directions given by Resident Assistants, move-in staff, Orientation leaders, and/or professional staff. Thank you! 

11:00 - 1:00 p.m. | Lunch on your own - We encourage you to experience the tastes of Forest Grove on your own or visit the University Center.

1:00 - 1:50 p.m. | New Player Meeting with Families [Required Session], Taylor-Meade Auditorium - Join us for the New Player Meeting with Families, where incoming players and their families will receive a warm welcome, meet the coaching staff, and get vital information to launch their athletic journey at Pacific.  This is the perfect opportunity to connect, ask questions, and start your student-athlete adventure with confidence and excitement!

2:00 p.m. | Student schedules provided by teams [Required Session] - Students will receive more information from Orientation and their coaches regarding their afternoon schedules. Please monitor your Pacific email. 

2:00 p.m. | Parent & Family Orientation, Taylor-Meade Auditorium - PARENT SESSION. Join us for Parent & Family Orientation at Pacific, where parents of student-athletes will meet our dedicated staff, gain valuable insights into campus resources, and discover how we support your student's academic and athletic success. 

3:30 - 4:30 p.m. | Parent: Boxer Brew, Ridgewalker Brewing, 1921 21st Ave, Forest Grove, OR - PARENT SESSION. For parents who may need a "cold one" after a long day of moving in their student-athlete, join other parents for a special mixer at Ridgewalker Brewing. Say you're with Pacific and receive a discount!

3:00 - 5:00 p.m. | Hawai'i Outreach and Programming: Family Welcome, University Center, MPR - This family session is to discuss the incoming Pacific Islander student experience, meet staff, and learn about student support at Pacific. 

5:00 – 7:00 p.m. | Dinner Break (On Your Own) -  We encourage you to experience the tastes of Forest Grove on your own (see our recommendations list of local restaurants) or visit the University Center. However you use this time, it is important to note that students should be back on campus by 7 pm at the latest to be on time for the hall socials.

7:00 - 9:00 p.m. | Evening Hall Socials, All Residence Halls - What makes your new hall home? Come meet the people you'll live with and kick-off the year with snacks, games, and karaoke. 

9:00 - 10:00 p.m. | Star Party, Boxer Gardens - Start school with cosmic views! Telescopes will reveal galaxies, planets, and the Moon, with casual discussions about the universe's mysteries!

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 23 // DAY TWO

8:00 - 9:00 a.m. | Non-Residential Student Check-in, University Center - Non-residential students must stop by the NSO info desk in the UC to pick up your student ID, nametag, and more. Required for students who didn’t check in Thursday. 

9:00 -10:00 a.m. | Convocation & Presidential Welcome [Required Session], Marsh East Lawn - Convocation marks a significant milestone for new students at Pacific University, serving as their inaugural academic ceremony in August. Families and supporters are invited to attend. 

10:00 - 11:30 a.m. | Welcome Brunch, the Quad (between Walter & McCormick Halls) - Join us for a community brunch with faculty immediately following Convocation.

4:00 - 5:30 p.m. | Sign, Shake and Ring (and Sweet Send-Offs), Old College Hall - Students get a chance to "sign, shake, and ring", a tradition unique to Pacific! Families are invited to join in this celebration then share a sweet treat before you bid farewell to your student, sponsored by University Advancement; this concludes the family portion of Orientation.

6:00 - 8:00 p.m. | Game On: Table-Top Gaming Adventure, UC, Boxer Pause - Dive into the world of table-top gaming at our orientation event! Connect with fellow students over classic board games and exciting new challenges, fostering friendships and fun in a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24 // DAY THREE

8:00 - 8:15 a.m. | Meet your Orientation Leader, University Center - Get instructions on navigating the Dining Hall, using your Boxer Card, and get in line for breakfast. 

8:15 - 9:30 a.m. | Breakfast with your Orientation Leader, University Center - This is a perfect opportunity to meet and connect with your assigned OL, ask questions, and get a head start on navigating your new campus experience.

10:00 - 12:10  p.m. | Navigating Success: Essential Workshops for New Boxers, [Attendance is mandatory for all new students (both first-year and transfer) across all four assigned sessions.] - Check your Orientation Folder for your assigned academic group number and schedule.

Join us for a mandatory comprehensive orientation program designed to equip you with the tools for academic and personal success at Pacific University. Across these four sessions, you'll explore academic expectations and honesty, discover the benefits of peer tutoring through the Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS), learn about student support services from the Academic & Career Advising Center and Office of Student Support, and understand how the Office of Accessibility and Accommodations supports students in overcoming challenges.

4:30-5:30 p.m | Association of Latinx and Ally Students Meet & Greet, AuCoin Hall 122 (Student Multicultural Center) - Join our Association of Latinx and Ally Students (ALAS) for the first social of the year! We'll share some information about ALAS and give you and introduce to our Pacific familia.

4:30-5:30 p.m | Let's Go Plogging! (Wait, What?), Leaving from AuCoin Patio at 4:00 p.m. - Join students from the McCall Center for Civic Engagement for a neighborhood plog (aka walk & clean) as we visit nearby student favorites like La Panadera Bakery, Rogers Park, and Telvet Coffee. We'll do some light trash pick-up while enjoying the fresh air and a chance to get off campus and into the local neighborhood. Bring cash or card if you want to enjoy a concha or bubble tea as we go - all other supplies will be provided.

4:30-5:30 p.m | Chapters & Chill, Tran Library - Rest recharge session from the Library featuring a sweet treat.

5:00 - 6:00 p.m. | Center for Gender Equity Meet & Greet, AuCoin Hall 127 (Center for Gender Equity) - Join us for an informal social! We'll share some information about resources that the CGE provides (condoms, menstrual products, etc.), share details about our programs and upcoming calendar of events, and offer opportunities to cultivate connections among LGBTQIA+ students and allies.

8:00 - 9:30 p.m. | ComedySportz @ PACU, Taylor-Meade Auditorium - For our stand-up comedy fans, we bring you ComedySportz, a Portland-based improv comedy group. Stop by the UC Patio after for a snack sponsored by the Undergraduate Student Senate!

9:45 - 11:00 a.m. | Can I Kiss You? [Required Session for all new Students], Stoller Gym - Join your fellow Boxers for a one-person show by the Center for Respect, demonstrating essential skills: asking for verbal consent, bystander intervention, and supporting survivors. Learn how we can work together to keep our community safe. Performed by the Center for Respect.

11:00 - 11:30 a.m. | Mental Health, Harm Reduction and Wellbeing [Required Session for all new Students], Stoller Gym - Discover essential tips for taking care of yourself during your first year at Pacific. 

11:30 - 1:30 p.m. | Brunch, University Center Café - Sunday Brunch. It’s a classic.

Find Your Class, UC Lounge - Get ready for your first day at Pacific University by joining us at the "Find Your Class" session! We'll assist you with printing schedules and locating buildings so you can navigate campus with ease. Start your PACU journey on the right foot and feel confident in your new home.

Outdoor Pursuits Tabling, UC Lounge - Explore the great outdoors with Outdoor Pursuits! Stop by their table to learn about exciting adventures and activities available to Pacific students, from hiking and kayaking to camping trips. Ice Cream Social, UC Patio - Cool off and make new friends at the Ice Cream Social! Enjoy delicious ice cream while mingling with fellow PACU students in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. This is the perfect way to unwind and start building your Boxer community.

3:00 p.m. | Orientation ends - Orientation programming ends Sunday afternoon, but the information desk will be open until 5:00 p.m. to help answer questions.
