Introduction
The study of musical performance is at the center of preparation for a career in music. Through study in the vocal arts, students are prepared for live performance in traditional and contemporary vocal genres and learn flexible techniques which can be utilized in a variety of professional settings. Students also study the history of singing, lyric diction and vocal music literature as well as the pedagogical techniques necessary to create a successful vocal studio. Vocal performance students are given frequent opportunities to showcase their talents in solo and ensemble performances to demonstrate growth, refine skills and further help to prepare them for a lifetime of singing.
Baccalaureate Degree Core
Music Core Courses: Required for all Bachelor of Arts in Music majors
Music Theory: 16 Credits
Music History: 8 Credits
Ensembles: 8 semesters
Large ensemble appropriate to the student's instrument or voice each semester in residence; may be taken for 0 or 1 credit. Students with junior standing or above may register at the 300-level for upper-division credit.

Program Length
Four years for a complete BA degree. Two years for students transferring in with an AAOT degree. Program length may vary depending upon the student's course load and academic progress.

- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of literature and repertoire appropriate to vocal performance.
- Demonstrate a high level of technical skill and mastery of vocal performance.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of pedagogical practices specific to vocal performance.
- Research and prepares a junior recital under faculty supervision.
- Research and prepares a senior recital under faculty supervision.
- Create and produce a printed recital program for public performance with appropriate format and annotations.
- Create and produce and distribute publicity materials such as print and electronic media.
- Perform publicly a junior recital according to the guidelines outlined in the student recital handbook.
