Ramona Ilea is a Professor of Philosophy and the Director of the Center for a Sustainable Society at Pacific University. She has been at Pacific since 2006 and often teaches Environmental Ethics, Animal Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, and Logic classes. She won the President’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
CSS staff

Valentina is half Mexican and half Slovak. She is currently a junior majoring in Environmental studies and International studies and minoring in Japanese. She is part of the women’s tennis team and the school band. As part of the CSS she plans on promoting more healthier, sustainable lifestyles which will benefit our planet.

Michelle is a sophomore attending Pacific University from Beaverton, Oregon. She has plans on majoring in Social Work with a minor in Fine Arts and Psychology. Being part of CSS, she hopes to encourage students to be more sustainable by providing opportunities to resources in order to reduce mass consumption. Such as Finder Keepers an event which allows students access to donated clothes for free, Boxer Food Share, or with donated materials that can be reused for arts and crafts. Michelle hopes to open up more events like these in order to help lower income students achieve a sustainable lifestyle without hurting their wallets. Outside of CSS, Michelle enjoys drawing, making jewelry, and spending quality time with her friends.

Andie is an expected graduate of '25 with a double major in anthropology and environmental studies and a minor in philosophy. She is passionate about creating a greener, more environmentally responsible, and sustainable future for the planet. Her work with the Center for Sustainable Society helps foster positive change and a more equitable future through great solutions and collaborative initiatives.

Tara is a senior from Oahu, Hawaii who is majoring in Environmental Ethics with a double minor in Chinese and Philosophy. She is very passionate about protecting the environment and promoting sustainable behaviors. During her free time she enjoys spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, painting, and photography.

Abigail is a first year student from Sandy, Utah and is currently planning on double-majoring in Applied Sustainability and Politics. She is on the basketball and rowing team, and is an intern for the mayor of Forest Grove. She edits CSS videos, is in charge of the Youtube channel, and is the lead for the environmental policy group.

Cody Tomita is from Honolulu, Hawaii. He is currently a sophomore. Major undecided. Minoring in Japanese. He hopes to promote a more sustainable lifestyle to protect our environment and preserve its beauty. During his free time he likes to play video games and hang out with friends.

Theresa Hay grew up in Scappoose, Oregon and is currently a senior studying environmental biology. She is always happy to talk about anything animal or nature related and is passionate about protecting the environment through local action. During her free time she enjoys crafting, hiking, and writing fantasy novels.

Cara is a double major in sociology and political science with a minor in history. She is passionate about sustainability through a mutual aid framework and believes strongly that liberation of marginalized groups is intrinsically linked to environmental justice. Cara is excited to serve CSS by working in the free store, hosting workshops in practical skills, and helping lead the Reproductive Justice Action Team.

Energy Trust of Oregon Intern

Tait is a senior at Pacific majoring in Physics, with a minor in Math. He is a member of the men's soccer team, and plays cello in the Pacific Philharmonic Orchestra. Tait is an intern with the Energy Trust of Oregon, his work involves mitigating natural gas usage in campus buildings.

Dang is a senior at Pacific University from Hillsboro, Oregon majoring in Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology and minoring in Criminal Justice. Dang is excited to work at the free store and be more involved in future events that help spread sustainable lifestyles to the community here in Forest Grove. During his free time he loves to read, play games, watch commentary videos on Youtube and sing in the shower.

Makenna Is a 2025 Senior at Pacific University from Tigard Oregon, majoring in Japanese, and minoring in applied sustainability. Her interest about caring for the earth and being sustainable, made her want to join CSS. In her free time she loves doing arts and crafts, play video games, and go thrifting.

I am Jose Lopez, a sophomore at Pacific University. I am majoring in Kinesiology. I have been involved with the Center of Gender Equity (CGE) and the Association of Latinx Students and Allies (ALAS.) I hope to spread the things I am passionate about on this campus. That includes the promotion of biking and safety, as well as the more sustainable and ethical lifestyle of plant based dieting.

Jaymee is a senior at Pacific University from Hillsboro, Oregon majoring in Social Work with a minor in Disability Studies. Jaymee works at the Free Store and is excited to educate others about the importance of sustainability on campus and in the local community. In her free time she enjoys listening to music, playing video games, thrifting, and trying new foods.

Kylie Pascual is a sophomore from Pearl City, Hawaii. She’s currently undeclared but has a passion for environmental science and studying humanities. At CSS, she’s in charge of managing CSS's social media. She hopes to get the community engaged in CSS in a creative way and expand the program to more colleges. Her goal is to teach everyone the difference between going “green” and going "sustainable”. In her free time, she loves playing soccer, reading, and listening to music.

Raz is a Ph.D. candidate in Vision Science and an international student from Iran. She graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Optometry from Iran and came to the United States to further her education. Raz has been a vegetarian for over 15 years and believes that all animals have the right to live without fear or danger. She advocates for promoting plant-based food options as a way to respect these rights while also caring for the Earth and fostering a deeper connection with nature. She is enthusiastic about participating in research, developing educational materials, and helping to organize events that encourage others to adopt a plant-based lifestyle. For her, working with the Center for a Sustainable Society (CSS) is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to express gratitude for the chance to make life easier for others while also contributing to the well-being of our planet. 

Finder's Keeper's Free Store Manager

Luciana is a senior with a major in anthropology and minors in Spanish and CSD. She is very passionate about waste reduction and second hand consumerism in order to create a greener world. In her free time she enjoys spending time with friends, reading, and playing video games.

Grace is a junior attending Pacific University from Spokane, Washington. She is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Marketing. She is also a part of the Women's collegiate soccer team. Being a part of CSS, she plans on promoting plant-based protein to other athletes as well as other vegan snacks and treats. During her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, working out, and being with friends.

Ariana is half Cuban and half Nicaraguan. She is from Miami, Florida, and is in her second year of the master's program in communication science and disorder. During her free time, she loves to hike and enjoy nature. Currently, she is working for the Free Store and on the social media team.

Jazmyn is a junior year biology major from Friday Harbor Washington. She has been competitively swimming for the past 16 years and is currently on her 3rd year of being on the Boxer Swim team. She is a part of the sewing team, which fixes and up-cycles clothes from the free store. She is passionate about helping the environment and making a change.
