Pharmacy Students, Faculty Give Back with Blood Drive
In light of recent natural disasters and senseless acts of violence the need for people to donate blood has never been greater.
A blood drive at Pacific University was held on Oct. 13 and was a huge success with 53 students, faculty and friends taking time to donate this valuable lifesaving resource for a total of 45 pints!
A number of School of Pharmacy students contributed by either donating blood or helped with organizing.
“Becoming blood drive coordinator has been very rewarding, as it has opened my eyes to the many reasons why people choose to give blood," said Megan Perius. "Most participate because they believe it is one of the easiest and effective ways to give back as the statistics say a typical motor vehicle accident can result in a patient needing at least 100 pints of blood.
"In the coordinator position I have the opportunity to serve as a leader and a mentor to the students who will follow in my path.
"For the first drive I am able to coordinate the event while at the same time working closely with a first year student, providing them with advice on how to be successful for future drives to come. By the time the third drive comes the first-year student is able to coordinate the event on their own and is ready to take over the coordinator position next year.”
The School of Pharmacy thanks all of those who donated. Mark your calendar for Friday, Jan. 19, for our next drive!
