Pacific Launches New Office of Global Pharmacy Education and Research

Four women in global outreach programThe School of Pharmacy is delighted to announce the launch of the new Office of Global Pharmacy Education and Research (OGPER).

School of Pharmacy faculty member Dr. Marina Suzuki is the director of this new office. The goals of OGPER are to develop and advance global programs for our students and faculty, to coordinate curriculums for visiting international students, scholars, and pharmacists, and to facilitate international collaborative opportunities for research and pharmacy practice.

This September, the SOP hosted Theresa Redinger from Austria, University of Vienna, as part of the International Pharmaceutical Students' Federation. While OGPER coordinated Theresa’s curriculum, social events were planned by our IPSF student liaisons, Becca Kimmel and Kelley Thurman. Upon her return to Vienna, Austria, Theresa sent us a message:

“The way Pacific University teaches and how developed clinical pharmacy is in the U.S. were just inspiring. If I could, I would immediately pack my suitcases again and study in Hillsboro.”

In November and December, current P3 students, Jennifer Stanislaw, Alyssa Strohbusch, Alexis Weisenburger, and David Turnbull plan to visit Belize. Dr. Danielle Backus and OGPER provided a preparatory session and wish a safe and pleasant travel for them.

An agreement was signed with Hoshi University to initiate global exchange program next academic year. Hoshi University plans to offer academic, research, and practice shadowing experiences for our students in next year’s program.

OGPER is excited to coordinate our global programs and will be looking for future hosts in the Portland area for international students, scholars, and pharmacists.

Similarly, we are seeking pharmacists available to provide one-day shadowing experiences for them. If you are interested, please contact the Director of OGPER at marina.suzuki@pacificu.edu.
