Deontae Massey-Johnson '22 Named Outstanding Senior in Social Science
Deontae Massey-Johnson '22 was one of two seniors named Outstanding Senior in Social Science at the 2022 Pacific University Undergraduate Awards Ceremony.
Massey-Johnson, a major in psychology, has written an open-source-edited online book titled, You Don’t Say? Developmental Science Offers Answers to Questions About How Nurture Matters. He has made several poster presentations, including presenting at the Western Psychological Association’s annual meeting this spring.
He has been a teaching assistant for introductory psychology and health psychology, is an active member of Psi Chi, and he has been awarded numerous internal grants and scholarships including the Pacific University Trustee Scholarship. He begins Pacific's PsyD program in the fall.
"Deontae is truly exceptional," said one of his professors. "Mr. Massey-Johnson's tenacity, maturity, passion, intellectual growth supersedes most of his peers." And his advisor wrote, "I have had the pleasure to see him develop into a scholar with a commitment to becoming a practitioner-scientist and serving his community."
The other winner of the Outstanding Senior in Social Science award was Zoraida Espinoza '22.
