Content

Professor Guillen is Didactic Faculty within the School of Physician Associate Studies, and enjoys teaching the Neurology, Epidemiology and Defense Against the Dark Arts modules. A consummate and lifelong believer in the power of education, he has 20 years of teaching experience in such disparate fields as Hip Hop Dance, Sexual Health, and Evidence Based Medicine. As a Physician Associate, he has employed his skills as Locum Tenens and regular PA, in rural and urban areas, domestically and internationally. You can often find him adding memes to lectures, finding systematic ways to include and expand JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) research, and being a scruffy nerf herder. In his free time (jajaja), Professor Guillen enjoys long walks in boardgame stores, filling out his passport stamp collection, and teaching his friends and family the value of mischief (managed). He identifies as nerdy, queer, poly, weird, and invites like souls to enter the realm of medicine to share their passions with others.

Practice/Research Interests

Jose has a longtime and wanton disregard for "choosing one." As such, he chose to multi-class early on, and has helped produce research in the fields of JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion), queer health, sexual health, infectious disease, epidemiology, and Magic: The Gathering. As a medical provider, he has plied his skillz in rural health centers, correctional facilities, bougie metropolitan practices, and free clinics across four continents. Now, within the hallowed halls of Pacific University, he has been fortunate enough to find a home for his academic wanderlust, and plots to recruit others into a life of nerditry and do-gooder-ness.

Outside the Classroom

In the quiet hours between romping with his daughter and developing strategies for the nascent zombie apocalypse, Jose enjoys organizing his Board Game Collection, sorting his Magic cards, and running up mountains in far away countries. His lifelong quest to find (and devour) the Best Tiramisu is sadly unfulfilled, and he welcomes friends, colleagues, students, your Mom, and perspicacious children to help him in this worthy endeavor. He has a growing pile of unread books, and no place to put them, because he has no shelf control.
