Oregon AHEC Scholars | OHWI AHEC
AHEC Scholars is a two-year national program designed to better prepare health profession students for future practice in rural and urban underserved communities.
Statewide collaboration between the Oregon AHEC Program Office, regional Centers, academic and clinical partners provides a robust interprofessional experience for learners.
Pacific University Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Pharmacy students participate in Oregon AHEC Scholars.This innovative program enrolls 75 – 125 students annually from multiple universities and health profession programs within Oregon. Enrolled students have a unique opportunity to fulfill their degree requirements with an emphasis on exposure to underserved communities, gaining valuable experience at community-based rural or urban underserved clinical practice sites, and enriching didactic training focused on six Core Topic areas:
- Behavioral Health Integration
- Cultural Competency
- Current & Emerging Issues
- Interprofessional Education
- Practice Transformation
- Social Determinants of Health
- Supporting CHW's and other healthcare paraprofessionals
- Virtual Learning & Telehealth
