Crews Pour Concrete at New Residence Hall Site

Construction of Pacific University's newest residence hall is proceeding on schedule.

Crews are pouring the first concrete foundation today for Pacific University’s newest residence hall, as weather permits, and construction of the living community is progressing on schedule.

Pacific University officially broke ground on the new residence hall in October during Homecoming. The building is expected to be complete for move-in by Fall Semester 2014.

Throughout the month of November, crews are placing slab at the construction site and beginning the framing of the building.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, a large crane will be installed at the site, allowing easy movement of building materials form truck unloading areas to the construction location. The crane will have an impressive 110-foot radius to allow for access to the entire site.

Also this month, crews will be building a “hammerhead,” or truck turnaround area, between the Washburne University Center and Price Hall to allow for continued entrance and egress of delivery trucks to the heart of campus.

The new residence hall will be a 60,000-square-foot project featuring a four-story structure for student living. It will include single- and double-occupancy rooms, as well as small suites, shared kitchens, study spaces and lounge areas. Other amenities will include versatile spaces for indoor and outdoor events, patios and an indoor/outdoor fireplace.

Continuing in Pacific University’s commitment to sustainability, the hall also will include bicycle parking, environmentally friendly gardens capturing stormwater runoff for reuse, and a highly-efficient building envelope, mechanical and electrical systems.

Pacific University, in partnership with the Inici Group, chose Walsh Construction to build the new hall, with design assistance from Mahlum Architects.
