September is National Suicide Prevention Month and National Recovery Month
September marks two important recognition and awareness months as both Suicide Prevention and Substance Use Recovery are recognized. If you are looking to contribute to the efforts of suicide prevention and supporting people in recovery there are a couple of upcoming Student Counseling Center Workshops and Trainings that might be a good fit!
For National Suicide Prevention Month:
Participate in a Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training where participants learn to recognize the warning signs, clues, and suicidal communication of people in trouble and gain skills to act and help save a life. This training includes information specifically geared towards the Pacific University community. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people aged 18-24 and this 60 minute training can equip you to ask a life-saving question and help connect someone to care.
Upcoming QPR Trainings are-
September, Monday, 16th @ Noon-1PM - Forest Grove, Tran Library
October, Thursday, 24th @ Noon-1PM- Zoom
For National Recovery Month:
The Student Counseling Center is offering two new workshops related to the unique intersections of substance use, addiction, recovery and mental health. Adapted from workshops developed by the SAFE Project, both of the below workshops work to explore the stigma surrounding these issues and equip Pacific University community members to investigate their own beliefs and advance their ability to be an ally for those living at complex intersections of identity and life experience.
Upcoming Workshops are-
No Shame Pledge
Explore the linkages between mental health, addiction and recovery. This stigma-reduction focused workshop ends with participants joining a national public health campaign by signing their own No Shame Pledge.
September, Wednesday, 18th @ Noon-1PM- Forest Grove, Boxer Pause
September, Monday, 23rd @ Noon-1PM- Hillsboro, HPC2 150
