Election Day: What's at Stake on Nov. 7, 2023

Nov. 7, 2023, is an “off-year” election in the U. S. Off-year refers to the fact that it is neither a presidential nor mid-term election. Instead the election will feature city and county level elections (e.g. mayors), citizen initiatives and special elections to fill vacancies.

In Oregon, this means that not all voters will receive a ballot. You will only receive one if your voting district has something on the ballot. For example, Washington County voters will only receive a ballot if they live in one of the following districts:

• City of Cornelius
• Cornelius Rural Fire Protection District
• Gaston Rural Fire Protection District
• Scappoose School District
• West Linn-Wilsonville School District

If you are not registered to vote in one of the districts listed above, you will not receive a ballot this election. If you are in one of these districts, voter’s pamphlets will begin arriving in mailboxes on Oct. 18, and can be found online in 13 languages. The same applies for all counties in Oregon.

If you are voting in another state, you can check out an overview of major nationwide elections, and it is vital you check the status of your ballot ASAP because of the extra time needed for mailing it back and forth.
