Memorial Service for Jim Flory Planned For Feb. 25

A memorial service for Pacific University Professor Emeritus Jim Flory will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, in the MPR in the lower level of the Washburne University Center on Pacific’s Forest Grove Campus.

Flory passed peacefully on Jan. 31, 2023. He was a fine arts photographer who specialized in travel and sports photography. He began his career teaching photography at Pacific in 1987 and was responsible for the creation of the photography minor, numerous student travel classes, and the waterfall image that adorns the stairway of Cascade Hall. Over the course of 30 years, he served as a professor, mentor and friend to countless Pacific students, alumni and employees. He retired from Pacific University in 2018. He is survived by his wife, Jean, an long-time staff member in Pacific’s Housing Office, as well as their children, Jeff, Bryce and Elizabeth, and three grandchildren.

A memory board will be available at the service, and guests are encouraged to write and bring their memories of Jim to post on the board.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to the Pacific University Art Department in Jim’s memory. This can be accomplished by visiting pacificu.edu/give, choosing “Other” under the Designations section and writing “Art department/photography.”
