Normalizing peer tutoring and other help-seeking behaviors in your classroom can increase your students’ willingness to access academic support resources. Peer tutoring and other academic supports have a myriad of positive impacts on student retention, persistence, and overall academic performance. In the classroom, being transparent and shifting the ways we talk about services can have a huge impact on student perception and usage of services. This session covers the impacts of peer tutoring on academic performance and overall student experience and focuses on practical strategies you can use to normalize tutoring and encourage your students to seek out the help they need to succeed in your courses.

How do we, as professors and instructors, motivate our students? This is a question many of us grapple with, and is essential to fostering higher academic engagement among our students. This workshop will encourage you to reflect on your current pedagogical practices, provide an overview of a few motivational models, and create space to think critically about what strategies you can implement into your relationships with students. Support your students’ success by helping them develop an effective learning practice with evidence-based learning strategies. As the instructor, you are in a unique position to teach them how evidence-based study strategies can be applied to your specific discipline and how an effective learning practice can support their success in your course and beyond. At this hands-on workshop, you will learn about some of the most effective evidence-based learning strategies and imagine how these strategies could be integrated into your course design.
