In Memoriam: Veryl Nelson ’49, OD ’50
Dr. Veryl Henry Nelson ’49, OD ’50, died May 10, 2022, at age 105. He was born on Nov. 16, 1916, in Mount Vernon, Wash., to Henry Nelson and Ruth (Lindbloom). In his early childhood, he lived in numerous cities in California. During his high school years, his family settled in Marysville, Wash., where he met and eventually married the love of his life, Blanche Louise Morley. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1935, after which the couple shared more than 80 years of marriage. The Everett community, where he lived, was very important to him. He was an optometrist by trade but was also a charter member of the North Everett Lions Club, where he served in many capacities until his retirement. He was a Mason and Shriner, as well. He was an integral part of Delta Community Baptist Church in north Everett. Post-retirement he could be found at Legion Golf Course during the week until he was more than 98 years old.
Nelson is survived by two sons, Lee (Ruelyn) Nelson and Reid (Judy) Nelson; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
