Students From Japan Wrap Up Their Hospitality Internships Through Pacific
A dozen students from Japan wrapped up their hospitality internship program at Pacific University this week with a graduation ceremony and hotel visit. During their year in Oregon, the students worked at Embassy Suites by Hilton and McMenamin’s Grand Lodge Hotel as well as taking an English as Second Language Course and undergraduate coursework at Pacific.
They were part of the Japanese student cohort that attended Pacific through a program operated by the Office of International Programs. Students in the program apply their English language and critical thinking skills to real-world situations so that they can be well-positioned for careers in the hospitality industry.
At Embassy Suites and McMenamin’s Grand Lodge, the students rotated through multiple roles and departments, from events to restaurant services.
Miyu Inoue, one of the 12 students from Japan, said at the graduation ceremony she applied for jobs at two hotels in Oregon, and during the interviews, “I was able to answer all of the questions with confidence because I had an amazing experience.”
Another cohort of Japanese students is scheduled to arrive at Pacific in the spring.
