Facilities Spruces up Pacific University During Summer Projects

While Pacific University students, faculty and staff have been learning and working remotely this year, the Facilities staff has been busy sprucing up the Forest Grove Campus in anticipation of the 2021-2022 academic year.

“Neither record high temperatures nor COVID-19 could slow down the university summer projects,” said Cindy Schuppert, director of Facilities Management & Campus Public Safety. “With a year where we did not have to work around many other people on campus, Facilities was able to get more projects completed than in previous years.”

Crane outside Marsh HallProjects ranged from work on Vandervelden Court Apartments to completion of a prayer room in the UC that has been in the works for years, plus many heating, ventilation and air conditioning projects and adding some security measures. Roofs and the Stoller Center also received a facelift.

Some of the bigger projects are taking a little longer to finish up, but will be well worth the wait. Once the third floor of Jefferson is complete, there will be a series of domino moves: Vision Performance Institute (VPI) will move to Jefferson and Academic and Career Advising will move to the vacated VPI space. Purchasing, the Student Multicultural Center and the Center for Gender Equity have already moved into their new spaces in Pacific Hall. You should check out their new spaces!

The facilities work continues. Chapman and Bates will be getting new roofs. Athletics will divide up the fieldhouse to make it useable for more groups, and last but not least, Facilities is just starting a construction project on the east end of the ITF in Hillsboro — the new home for the Office of Scholarship and Sponsored Projects.

  • Vandervelden Greek Lounge HVAC unit replaced
  • Prayer room build in UC room 104
  • Complete renovation of apartment 100 in Walter Hall
  • Abbott House HVAC replacement of the line set
  • HVAC controls upgraded in Burlingham, Cascade, Gilbert and Jefferson
  • Market at Hillsboro had some new appliances installed and a card reader added to the door
  • Reconfiguration of Clark Hall courtyard
  • Mature tree maintenance
  • Stoller gymnasium floor resurfaced by Athletics
  • Murdock Flat roof
  • Stoller roof in middle section of the building
  • Stoller handball court HVAC units replaced
  • Stoller carpet in the hallways, offices and weight room

Ongoing Projects

  • Jefferson remodel of third floor on east and center wings
  • Roof replacement on Walter Hall
  • HVAC upgrade in Marsh Hall
  • Brick replacement on Pacific Hall east exterior wall
  • Athletics is having artificial turf installed on the softball field
  • Minor build-outs of some areas in Pacific Hall for departmental moves
