'It's Time To Step Up and Make A Change'

Trevor Hennigan MAT '22 knew that it was time to step up and make a change when the pandemic hit.

He was living in New York City and made his way back to Hillsboro, Ore., for what was supposed to be a short visit. 

“While watching the world change in real time, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was time to step up and make a change,” he said. “For me, that looks like becoming a special education teacher.”

He interviewed Dr. Bryan Cichy-Parker about Pacific’s master of arts in teaching special education program to learn more.

“He spoke with such passions and respect about the student body, his colleagues, and the work being done in the field of special education at Pacific,” Hennigan said. “I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of that community.” 

The master of arts in teaching in special education program, offered at Pacific’s Forest Grove and Eugene campuses, prepares individuals to successfully support children with disabilities as equal and valuable members of the school community. 

“We all have a responsibility to make a change and leave an impact on our communities,” Hennigan said. “Whether that impact is on your future patients, students or colleagues at a firm, going to school and gaining the tools necessary to leave that impact is the first step in becoming a catalyst for change in our currently broken world.”
