Prepare for Excessive Heat and Drought Conditions this Summer

Students outside on sunny dayThe National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Oregon, much of Washington and parts of Idaho, excluding the coast. The watch is in effect from Friday afternoon to Monday evening. Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

Safety reminder for students and employees:

  • Monitor the latest forecast for updates.
  • Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids.
  • Dress for the weather and wear sunscreen.
  • Check on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly.
  • Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles especially during warm or hot weather as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.
