In Memory: Arley Boyce '55

Arley Grant Boyce, who attended Pacific from 1953 to 1955, died July 27, 2020, two days short of his 97th birthday.

He was born in Cross Lake, Minn., and married Mary Maxine Gildow, who preceded him in death. He first came west at age 15 by himself working in the Civic Conservation Corps, building trails out of the Ranger Station at Oak Ridge, Ore. He was a graduate of Willamette University in business, and the University of Oregon in education administration. He also attended, but did not graduate from Pacific, where he took teaching courses.

He taught business, retail selling and served as athletics director and vice principal for 28 years at Beaverton (Ore.) High. 

Arley loved family road trips, hunting and fishing. He has six children: Sandy, Robert, Allen, Fritz, Marilyn (deceased), Beverly and their spouses; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arley served in the Navy in the South Pacific and was laid to rest with military honors at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
