COVID-19 Update | March 11, 2020

Dear Students, Families, Faculty & Staff,

I know that you are hearing a lot of news about the new coronavirus, COVID-19, from us and from a variety of sources. Among today’s news came reports of school closures, event cancellations, and travel restrictions from the U.S. government.

All of this quickly changing information can cause a lot of uncertainty and stress.

I want to reassure you that we have a team of people at Pacific who are meeting daily to evaluate the situation and to plan for Pacific University. Please be cautious about rumors and false information about the virus. We are regularly posting new information on our webpages at pacificu.edu/coronavirus. In addition to Pacific information, these pages have links to reputable and trustworthy information sources.

At this time, Pacific is not closing, and we are holding on-campus classes as usual. We have prohibiting international travel through May 31, 2020, and have recalled our undergraduate students studying in Japan. We are closely following the recommendations of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC). Tonight, Oregon’s governor let us know that tomorrow she will “announce new steps to stem the spread of coronavirus in Oregon, addressing mass gatherings, social distancing, and work place practices.” We will update you on what this means for our campus gatherings as soon as possible.

All of us at Pacific want our community to work, study and learn in a safe and supportive environment. We will continue to update you as we have more information and as circumstances change.

Take care and warmest regards,

Lesley M. Hallick
President
