Pharmacy Alumna Finds Success, Advises Balance
Brittany Cummiskey PharmD ’15 worked hard to get where she is, a full-time pharmacist at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital, but she’s a strong believer in keeping a balanced life. In fact, it’s what she encourages all School of Pharmacy students to do.
“It is a wonderful accomplishment to graduate from pharmacy school with honors and awards, but it is an even greater thing to have people to share those accomplishments with,” she said. “During pharmacy school I studied during every spare second and was involved in as many committees as I could make time for, but I saved every exam Friday for my husband and face-timed my family in St. Louis at least twice a month.”
Cummiskey fills a variety of roles at Samaritan North Lincoln, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Lincoln City, Ore. She is focused on outpatient functions, from labor and delivery to emergency trauma cases. She reviews chemotherapy plans, interviews patients and participates in education programs.
Cummiskey came to Samaritan North Lincoln as a Pacific student, interning at the hospital for 12 weeks. A pharmacy job at the hospital opened up the summer after she graduated and the pharmacy manager offered it to her. Now, Cummiskey said, “I am proud that I am a trusted member of the patient care team.”
