Physical Therapy Students Serve Communities
Students and faculty continued to participate in annual service and outreach opportunities including Special Olympics – State Summer Games in Corvallis, ¡Salud! and teaching local high-school students gross anatomy.
This year, as part of Physical Therapy Day of Service, students also volunteered for three organizations: Night Strike, an organization in Portland that works to connect with and serve homeless individuals in the community; Community Action, a nonprofit organization that assists residents of Washington County in need; and the Special Olympics Jamboree in conjunction with the 2017 APTA National Student Conclave in Portland.
Later in the year during Community Action’s annual benefit, Kaleidoscope, PT and AT students assisted by registering guests, monitoring the silent auction and processing gifts during a successful evening of fundraising.
Five students also volunteered for Touch the Future Hawai‘i, which is a program that motivates grade-school students to attend college, obtain a career and then return to serve their communities as healthcare professionals in Hawai‘i.
