First-Year Experience
At Pacific, we recognize the transformative potential the first year of college holds. That’s why we’ve put a great deal of thought and resources into our First-Year Experience program, consciously designed to welcome our newest Boxers to the Pacific family.
The First-Year Experience provides a holistic model that supports both the transition and transformation that takes place across the entire first year. To help acclimate to the demands of college, all first-year students are enrolled in a First Year Communities (FYC) course, which provides the skills needed to critically engage with complex topics at the college level. First-Year Mentors, generally upper-classmen, serve as support in most FYC courses, assisting as liaisons to campus resources and well-being.
Additionally, first-year students meet with academic advisors across the first-year to develop their major and career. One to two credit courses that focus on college success skills (financial planning, time management, mapping their majors, etc.) are also offered with first-year students in mind. From academic coaching to free tutoring services, we strive to welcome and support our newest students through a comprehensive First-Year Experience program.
