Pacific University Welcomes Alumni for Homecoming 2017
Hundreds of alumni are expected to return to Pacific University this weekend (Oct. 6-8) for Homecoming 2017, highlighted by naming ceremonies for the university's primary athletics field and library, as well as the latest induction of the Golden Guard, alumni who are returning in honor of their 50-year anniversary (Class of 1967), and the induction of the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2017.
Among the opening activities on Friday, Oct. 6 is the annual Golden Guard Luncheon, followed by the Class of 1967 procession at 2 p.m. from the University Center to Old College Hall, where alumni will carve their names into a freshly poured concrete sidewalk panel adjacent to the university's most storied building.
Other special events include a Celebration of Libraries in which the university's Forest Grove Library is being named in honor of alumni Tim and Cathy Tran (both class of 1974). The ceremony begins at 3 p.m., and attendees will hear remarks from the Trans, enjoy cake and view contents of a 50-year-old time capsule that was located in the library's previous building - Pacific Hall - when it opened in 1967.
Activities Friday evening will be highlighted by the 23rd Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 7:30 p.m. in McCready Hall of the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center. Inductees include the undefeated 1952 football team, baseball slugger Matt Lengwenus ’03 and exemplary softball player Kristen (Croxford) Cornachione ’09.
On Saturday, the Boxer football team takes on Pacific Lutheran at 1 p.m., immediately prior to which the university will honor trustee Kim Ledbetter and his wife Barb for the recent naming of the playing surface at Hanson Stadium to Ledbetter Field. Guests are encouraged to find their seats in advance of kickoff as university honors the Ledbetter family during the pregame coin toss. A Boxer Nation celebration with activities for the whole family will take place in concourse outside the stadium beginning a 10 a.m.
Alumni can register in advance at pacificu.edu/homecoming or in person at the Welcome Center, located inside the Washburne University Center in the heart of campus, beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.
