Chui, Von Named CHP Associate Deans for Faculty Development
Dr. Kevin Chui, director of the School of Physical Therapy, and Dr. Mary Von, director of the School of Physician Assistant Studies, have been appointed associate deans of faculty affairs, effective July 1, 2017. Both will continue in their primary role of school director.
In their additional team role as associate deans, they will share the responsibilities for supporting the faculty personnel review process and also faculty career development in general, with the goal of developing a robust faculty development program within the College of Health Professions. Both Chui and Von bring considerable strengths to this new role, which include experience with review and support of faculty in the tenure/extended term and promotion process at two different academic institutions, as well as expertise in leadership and higher education.
“I am looking forward to the creativity that Mary and Kevin will bring to mentoring the faculty in academic career development,” said Vice Provost and CHP Executive Dean Ann Barr-Gillespie.
Chui earned a PhD in pathokinesiology from New York University in 2005 and a doctor of physical therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2011. He is a geriatric certified specialist, an orthopedic certified specialist, a certified exercise expert for aging adults, and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. He also completed the American Physical Therapy Association Fellowship in Education Leadership and a doctoral level certificate in manual therapy from Regis University. He joined Pacific in 2016 as the director of the School of Physical Therapy and has served in his role with distinction.
Dr. Von earned her master of science degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences, her PA certificate from the University of Washington School of Medicine, and completed her doctoral studies at A.T. Still University. She has been with the Pacific University School of Physician Assistant Studies since 2003, and she has held several critical leadership positions within the school: clinical coordinator, director of academic education and associate director. She became director of the School of Physician Assistant Studies in 2014 and has provided outstanding leadership including a major accreditation self study and site visit this spring.
“Drs. Von and Chui have extensive experience in academic faculty review and career development,” Barr-Gillespie said. “I am thrilled that they will be supporting the CHP faculty on their path to success here at Pacific.”
