New Faculty and Staff Awards

Pacific University’s Honors & Awards Committee, together with the University Diversity Committee, announce two new awards to debut at the 2016 Staff & Faculty Awards in May. These new awards recognize the accomplishments of faculty and/or staff who advance the university's mission in the areas of diversity, equity, justice, civic engagement, and global community.

Kate Garrison “Overcoming the Odds” Award
This award recognizes a faculty or staff member who is a pioneer, trailblazer, or innovator whose work is advancing justice and equity specifically for people of underrepresented racial and/or ethnic backgrounds. This work must have an impact on the greater Pacific University communities in helping people overcome obstacles. The award is named for Kate Garrison, a woman of African-American and Native American heritage, who was the first known person of African-American descent to live in Forest Grove.

University Diversity & Justice Award
This award recognizes a faculty or staff member whose work creates a diverse and sustainable community that inspires students to pursue justice in our world and that embraces a rich diversity of ideas, peoples, and cultures with an emphasis on public service in a global community.

Nominations for these two new awards will open in February. Look for information by email and on the Faculty & Staff newsfeed.
