Optometry Class of 2016 Awards Luncheon
The 88 members of the Optometry Class of 2016 are packing their finest clinic attire and array of hand-held instruments as they embark on their year-long clinical externships.
During the fourth professional year of the program students will spend four 16 week rotations as interns in our campus clinics, hospital settings, and public or private healthcare centers. The externship sites are located throughout the United States and in select locations in Canada, Asia and Europe.
Before leaving campus, they were feted at an awards luncheon on April 29 sponsored by Alcon Partners in Education. The following awards and recipients were announced:
- AAO Student Fellowships | Recipients: Daphne Cheng, Prajkta Ingle, Emma Lundien, Cathy Yuen
- Forest Grove Lions Club Community Service Award | Recipient: Sara George
- Varilux Student Grant Award | Recipient: Kellen Robertson
- J. Pat Cummings Scholarship | Recipient: Brooke Harkness
- Paul Kohl Award for Excellence and Passion in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision | Recipient: Rachel Knutson
- William Ludlam Endowed Scholarship | Recipients: Heather Mironas, Kathryn Dailey
- Meadowcroft Endowed Scholarship | Recipients: Taylor Blanco, Kellen Robertson
- Professional Eye Care Associates of America | Recipient: Danni Griffith
Special guests at the luncheon included Tom Duchardt and Casey Dietrich from Alcon who joined the faculty and staff of the College in celebrating with the Class on 2016. Special presentations were made by Red Rowling who represented Forest Grove Lions Club; David Wolf, OD ’84, on behalf of Professional Eye Care Associates of America (PECAA); and the Kohl family, Cathy, Maja and Jesse.
