Physician Assistant Studies Tuition and Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office determines eligibility for all federal loan and employment programs and provides resources for students interested in borrowing through private and alternative loan programs. The process of financing a graduate education can be challenging; the Financial Aid Office is committed to making the process as manageable as possible.

Financial Aid 

To apply for financial aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available annually beginning October 1. To explore and understand available financing options, we recommend that you file the FAFSA no later than February 15, prior to the start of the academic year. It is not necessary to be accepted for admission prior to submitting a FAFSA.

Loans

Federal Student Loan Programs 

Federal student loan programs offer:

  • Fixed interest rates, set annually by the federal government
  • Income-driven repayment plans
  • Loan forgiveness plans

Private Loans

Alternative loans are available through private lenders. Eligibility is generally based on a borrower’s employment history, credit score, debt-to-income ratio, and enrollment status. Students are encouraged to explore federal student loan options before applying for alternative student loans.

Federal Work Study

Federal work study funds part-time jobs for students with financial need, as determined by the FAFSA. Earnings are paid directly to the student for hours worked. To qualify, students must submit the FAFSA by March 1 (prior to the start of the academic year) and indicate on the FAFSA that they want to be considered for federal work study.

The H.F. Randolph Community Scholarship: Pacific University awards several Community Service scholarships to first year Physician Assistant (PA) students who demonstrate a commitment to underserved communities and whose intention is to practice in such an area after completion of the program.

The Josiah Hill III PA Alumni Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded by the PA Staff and Faculty to a second-year physician assistant student who demonstrates financial need, good academic standing and participation in community service and activities related to the PA profession.

The Director’s Award OHA Scholarship: This scholarship is from the School of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies and Oregon Health Authority (OHA). Designed with both the student and Oregon workforce in mind, this scholarship provides Pacific University College of Health Professions PA students with a unique opportunity to help address healthcare disparity in the state.

The John Stoianoff Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was established in 2019 by the loving family of Dr. John R. Stoianoff, commemorating his life of service, compassion, and generosity as a surgeon in Idaho, and as a skilled lecturer in health care practice during his retirement years. A joyful and inspiring presence for students and faculty of the Pacific University School of Physician Assistant Studies, Dr. Stoianoff contributed over 11 years of volunteer service.

Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) Funds

These funds are available to selected students from Alaska, Nevada, and Wyoming who have applied for funding from their state. WICHE recipients in physician assistant programs can receive $17,250 for the academic year. All residents from the states above are strongly encouraged to apply for WICHE certification. The application deadline for WICHE funding is October 15 of the year prior to entrance in the program.
