Emergency Weather Conditions
Emergency Weather Conditions
Emergency weather conditions include weather that actively affects the safety of the campus community or university operations. Examples include: flooding on campus; snow or icy roads; lightning storms on campus; natural disasters (earthquake, tornado, etc.).
Emergency Weather Decision Process and Communication Procedures
- Vice President for Finance & Administration (or designee) consults with Director of Facilities prior to 6 a.m., including weekends as needed, to determine the operating schedules for the Forest Grove and Hillsboro campuses, as well as all health clinics (Dental, Ear, Eye, Physical Therapy, Psychology/Comprehensive Health, Diabetes) and other locations (Portland MFA in Writing office).
- The following locations follow their local K-12 public school district's operation schedule: (Eugene Campus, Woodburn Campus, Early Learning Community [Forest Grove] ).
- If at least one location is closed or delayed in opening, the university will issue a Boxer Alert notification in the form of a mobile phone text message and an email message that will include all affected locations. The alert will also appear on all webpages of the university website. Additionally, a news release containing more detailed information for all locations (both affected and unaffected locations) will be posted to the university website.
- If there is a discussion about changes in the hours of operation due to inclement weather, and the decision is made to open for normal business hours, a message indicating such will be posted to the university website.
- Boxer Alert notifications are sent to all university community members who have not opted out of the service, even if the notification is location-specific.
- News Media: Only messages of closures or delays will be communicated to news media. Following are television and radio media that announce weather-related closures and delays:
