The Pacific University doctor of audiology (AuD) degree program is designed to prepare doctors of audiology in an innovative educational environment who are clinically outstanding, committed to life-long learning, and leaders in their community and profession.

Program & Requirements

Audiologists are people who enjoy working one-on-one with other people. The profession requires a strong command of the English language, a keen interest and aptitude in technology, and the ability to communicate clearly with others. Students who enter a doctor of audiology (AuD) degree program often have an undergraduate degree in the following areas (majors and/or minors): communication sciences and disorders, physical sciences (e.g., biologychemistryphysics), social sciences (e.g., anthropologypsychologysociology), the communication sciences (e.g., English, communication), music, or business. In reality, a student could earn a degree in many disciplines and meet the other entry requirements for possible admission to the doctor of audiology degree program.

In addition to an undergraduate degree, applicants must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in the last 45 semester credit hours of study, including post-baccalaureate or graduate areas of study, if any. Three letters of recommendation are also required; one must be from a professor who has taught you in college or an audiologist who can speak specifically to your potential for success in a doctoral-level audiology program. Volunteer or observational experiences in audiology prior to application are strongly recommended. Evidence of a strong commitment to pursuing a career as an audiologist is essential.

Prerequisites

Regardless of major or minor area of study, at least one course each in the human biological sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, statistics, social/behavioral sciences, and English are required as part of a student’s undergraduate degree or post-baccalaureate preparation. Courses in communication sciences and disorders relevant to the study of audiology are strongly encouraged.
