Two New Degree Programs Set to Begin This Fall at Pacific University

Two new degree offerings will be available at Pacific University beginning this fall. The Board of Trustees recently approved the addition of an undergraduate degree major titled "Criminal Law, Justice and Society," as well as a doctorate in vision science.

A program within the College of Arts & Sciences' School of Social Sciences, Criminal Law, Justice and Society explores the theory and philosophy of law and justice in the United States. The curriculum teaches students to address the challenges of pursuing justice in a complicated and quickly changing social environment. Students who complete this program may go on to law school or to pursue careers in social policy, criminal justice, law enforcement, juvenile justice, corrections, law, federal and state agencies, and international organizations.

Offered by the College of Optometry, the three-year Doctor of Philosophy in Vision Science degree program immerses students in the broad understanding of a wide variety of topics, such as the optics of the eye, anatomy and neurophysiology of the retina and visual pathways, eye movements and vision perception, clinical aspects of vision, sports vision, visual functions in learning, 3D viewing, assistive devices, and more. Students are trained with the skills to carry out independent research through hands-on experiences in empirical research projects under guidance of faculty members.

Founded in 1849, Pacific University consists of colleges of Arts & Sciences, Optometry, Education, Health Professions and Business, with locations in Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Eugene, Portland and Woodburn.
