Staff Positions Available on University Standing Committees
Interested in collaborating with employees from across the university and learning about other areas at Pacific? Consider nominating yourself for a staff-at-large position on a university standing committee. There are four vacancies, one for each committee, on the University Diversity Committee, University Finance Committee, University Honors and Awards Committee and the University Technology Committee.
These positions are a three-year term starting in September and ending in August of 2026. Any non-faculty employees are eligible to be nominated. The committees generally meet in the afternoon on a monthly basis from September to May.
Historically, Staff Senators have nominated staff members to serve on university standing committees, but nominations are being accepted from throughout the university community. Self-nominations or nominating a colleague are both welcomed. If more than one nomination is received, a statement of intent will be required. Learn more about these committees in Chapter 2 of the University Faculty and Governance Handbook.
Email staffsenate@pacificu.edu to make a nomination by Friday, March 17. If you have any questions about the work of the committee, current committee members, or if you would like to attend a meeting as a guest, please reach out to Maegan Jossy, executive assistant to the Provost at maeganj@pacificu.edu.
Committee Descriptions
The University Diversity Committee works to advance Pacific University’s goal of achieving diversity in enrollment and the composition of faculty and staff. The committee advises the University Council on matters related to equity and diversity to advance the university’s mission and vision. Recent projects this committee has accomplished include:
- Analysis and distribution of the 2019 and 2022 Campus Climate Surveys
- Establishment of the Student Multicultural Center
- Support for the establishment and development of college-level diversity committees
- Review of the university’s EDI policies
- Support for the student social justice retreat
The University Finance Committee reviews and discusses the university’s financial operations to help facilitate communication within the university community as it pertains to employee benefits, the budget and financial aid. Committee members explore many student-centered topics such as enrollment trends, recruitment and supporting students' experiences at Pacific. Additionally, committee members identify areas they would like to understand more about. This year the committee has explored the budgeting model that Pacific uses and enrollment initiatives (both current and planned). Staff members have valuable insights and contributions that are sought out on this committee.
The University Honors and Awards Committee is responsible for recommending to the president individuals for honorary awards. Annually, the committee solicits recommendations from the university community for staff, faculty and community awards. Get involved in the annual recognition of employees by serving on this committee. Staff nominees must be benefits-eligible and have been employed for a minimum of three years at Pacific.
The University Technology Committee represents the university community in evaluating and recommending technology policy, educational technologies, implementation of new technologies, and providing feedback to the Chief Information Officer on the allocation of infrastructure resources. Recent accomplishments include working with UIS to better understand the computer replacement policy and reviewing the UIS budget to better inform the needs of students, faculty and staff.
