Shella Parcarey MFA '24 Awarded Spring 2024 Mapmakers Teaching Assistantship

Shella Parcarey MFA '24

Shella Parcarey MFA '24 has been awarded the Spring 2024 Mapmakers Teaching Assistantship, a competitive opportunity co-sponsored by the Master of Fine Arts and English programs.

The assistantship is open to all MFA students entering their 3rd or 4th semesters who have been awarded the Kwame Dawes Mapmakers Scholarship. The Mapmakers scholarship currently offers partial tuition awards to exceptional students of color, and this teaching fellowship offers an additional stipend.

In this role Shella assists in the teaching of a section of ENGW 180, Writing and Research, led this term by Jenna Thompson, herself a graduate of the MFA. Program Director Scott Korb will also offer pedagogy mentorship throughout the assistantship semester, as well.

Shella had this to say about finding her way into the Pacific undergraduate classroom: "I'm thrilled and grateful to have this opportunity to be a teaching assistant at Pacific. Extending my learning into pedagogy has been a dream as I explore careers after getting an MFA. To be able to do this at Pacific, where I feel nurtured and continue to grow as a writer under the guidance of its immensely talented faculty, is truly a gift and a wonderful surprise."

A week into the semester already, and Shella is making a profound difference to this group of Pacific undergrads. The MFA team congratulates her!
