School of Pharmacy Honored for Innovative Curriculum
Pacific University School of Pharmacy faculty and staff have recently been honored by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
Under the direction and leadership of assistant professor Brendan Stamper, a portfolio of tutorials for Pacific's pharmacy students has been named one of three national winners of the AACP's 2014 Innovations in Teaching Competition. The stated purpose of the competition is to identify innovative teaching and learning strategies and assessment methods, provide an opportunity to engage faculty in a process of documenting their scholarly approach to teaching and learning and provide an opportunity for selected faculty to present and disseminate their work.
Stamper and a team of fellow Pacific Pharmacy faculty and staff developed and implemented a unique and innovative teaching and learning method to assist first-year phamarcy students in learning of pharmaceutical sciences. Other contributing professors and staff include Amber Buhler, John Harrelson, Ashim Malhotra, Sigrid Roberts, Fawzy Elbarbry, Deepa Rao, Catherine Marlow, Leslie Devaud, Beth Ross and School of Pharmacy Dean Reza Karimgevari.
Stamper will present and disseminate the curriculum at a special session during the AACP Annual Meeting in Grapevine, Texas later this month.
"This is a tremendous honor for the School of Pharmacy," Karimgevari said. "I commend Brendan and the rest of the team for their efforts, and thank the university's Teaching Advancement and Research Grants in Educational Technology program for providing funding that made it possible to generate and implement this innovative teaching and learning method."
