Rob Hesia '04 Named Hawai'i Wrestling Coach of the Year

Rob Hesia '04 was selected as the coach of the year by the Hawaii Wrestling Coaches Association at the national body’s meeting in Pittsburgh this week.

Hesia coaches the boys and girls teams at the Kamehameha Schools' Honolulu campus. He led the Warriors to state team titles for both the boys and the girls, the first state sweep by a single school in four years.

Hesia told Honolulu's Hawaii News Now, "It really says that not only do we have individually strong people, but the room in general is just full of hammers."

Individually, Hesia helped Brant Porter and Kysen Terukina close the season with individual state crowns on the boys side and Alana VivasAshley Gooman and Paige Respicio on the girls side.

Hesia is the second Pacific alum coaching at Kamehameha to be honored as the state's wrestling coach of the year. Billy Valenciano won the award in 2013.
