Professor Mark Bailey Recognized As 'Amazing Educator'
Mark Bailey’s influence on education can be felt throughout Pacific University’s Forest Grove Campus and throughout the Forest Grove community.
From the Early Learning Community to his work with the Forest Grove Community School, the distinguished university professor of education in the College of Education has spent his career improving the classroom experience for children and teachers.
Bailey’s work is being honored by Pamplin Media Group, whose publications include the Forest Grove News-Times, which named him as one of its 2024 Amazing Educators.
“I teach at a university that is filled with so many exceptional educators and I am deeply honored to have been recognized,” Bailey said. “One of the things that I am proud of is my role in helping to prepare hundreds of extraordinary educators who are teaching at schools throughout Oregon and across the country.”
A member of the Pacific faculty since 1995, Bailey has played a key role in the growth of the College of Education’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
His influence is most visible in the Early Learning Community, which Bailey founded. Located in Berglund Hall and opened in 2008, the ELC provides an exemplary early childhood teaching and learning environment for children from preschool to fourth grade and provides hands-on teaching experience to students in the College of Education.
“It is a privilege to work with the teachers and staff in the ELC. As a demonstration school for the College of Education, the ELC models inspirational student-centered learning and teaching,” Bailey said. “I continue to learn from them with regards to their current insights and exemplary practice, as do countless future teachers and clinicians who have the opportunity to spend time in their classrooms.”
In the Forest Grove community, Bailey organized and operated the long-running Forest Grove Children’s Fair and aided in the development and opening of the Forest Grove Community School, a charter school for students residing within the Forest Grove School District.
