Petition for Course on Healthcare Bias for Graduates

Pacific’s Professional Senate has joined the calls for action in response to the Black Lives Matter movement with a petition asking for a course dedicated to the healthcare needs of marginalized people with a focus on the healthcare providers’ role on dismantling the oppressive system.

Senators are calling upon all students, faculty and staff to sign the petition before midnight, Friday, July 12. The petition, which has broad support of Pacific administration, requests a course that discusses the origins of systemic bias and provides training to healthcare professionals to combat that bias.

Pacific’s optometry students are also advocating change. In a letter to administrators of the College of Optometry, the Class Council shared resources encouraging reflection of privilege in order to start conversations about race relations. The letter also encourages leadership to commit concrete steps for social justice reform at Pacific University.
