Paul Rowley MFA '12 Awarded Tinworks Art Grant
Paul Rowley MFA '12 was among a group of artists awarded the 2021 Tinworks Artists Grant in April. Rowley, a descendant of the Blackfeet and Cree tribes of Montana, is one of two Indigenous grant winners. He weaves contemporary and traditional objects using cedar bark to make wearable creations that reflect the traditions of the Pacific Northwest’s tribal history. He will receive $10,000, a studio visit from the curatorial team, and a place in a public lecture series this fall. Rowley, who lives in Somers, Mont., is also required to participate in one outreach activity for K-12 students or an underserved community of his choice.
