Pacific University's August Commencement Set for Saturday

Pacific University College of Health Professions students of dental hygiene, physician assistant studies and professional psychology will partake in the university's August commencement exercises set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. 

The ceremony will take place on the lawn east of Marsh Hall (2043 College Way) and a reception will follow. 

The School of Dental Health Science will present candidates for a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene.

Clinical dental hygienists perform oral health assessments, prepare and interpret dental radiographs (x-rays), remove plaque, calculus, and stain from the teeth, apply preventive materials like fluoride and sealants and teach patients proper oral hygiene techniques and counsel them on maintaining optimal oral health. 

The university's Masters of Healthcare Administration program will present candidates for its master of science in healthcare administration degree. Designed for working professionals, the program prepares graduates to become leaders in the challenging and dynamic environment of healthcare. 

Pacific University's School of Physician Assistant Studies will also present candidates for degree.

Physician assistants practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. They take comprehensive histories, perform complete physical examinations, order and interpret laboratory tests, diagnose and treat illnesses, develop treatment plans, counsel patients and their families, perform minor procedures and assist during surgeries. 

The university's School of Professional Psychology will present candidates for four distinct degrees: a master of arts in counseling psychology, a master of arts in clinical psychology, master of science in clinical psychology and a doctor of psychology.

Graduates of the School of Professional Psychology are highly skilled in evidence-based practices and able to meet the needs of people and communities through assessment, consultation, education and treatment services.

Located in downtown Hillsboro, Pacific University's College of Health Professions also consists of schools of audiology, occupational therapy, pharmacy and physical therapy. Additionally, the college offers graduate degree or certificate programs in athletic training, gerontology and healthcare compliance.
