Pacific University Professor Kevin Johnson Receives Fulbright International Education Administrators Award
Pacific University Chemistry Professor and School of Natural Sciences Director Dr. Kevin E. Johnson has received a Fulbright International Education Administrators award.
Johnson, also the associate dean for undergraduate research and summer learning at Pacific, will spend nearly two weeks in the Germany in October 2018 to participate in a seminar designed to familiarize higher education administrators from the U.S. to Germany’s federalist higher education system, society and culture. He will partake in presentations and meetings at various universities throughout the country, including institutions emphasizing research in the applied sciences.
The seminar will conclude in Brussels, Belgium, where the Johnson’s German-based Fulbright group will connect with fellow American administrators participating in a similar program in France.
“The seminar will allow me to become familiar with Germany’s culture and, in particular, its higher education system, how it is similar and distinct from ours,” Johnson said. “This opportunity will also help me define and promote opportunities for Pacific undergraduate students majoring in the natural sciences and other disciplines to study or work abroad in Germany and other international destinations.”
Johnson has been a member of Pacific’s chemistry faculty since 1994 and has been an associate dean and director of the College of Arts & Sciences’ School of Natural Sciences since 2011. As Natural Sciences director, he oversees the university’s biology, chemistry, environmental science, exercise science, mathematics and computer science, and physics departments.
