Pacific on the Regional and National Stage
Pacific students, alumni, and faculty were busy representing the School of Pharmacy and our profession this spring at both the national American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting in Seattle and the Oregon Society of Health Systems Pharmacists Annual Seminar in Sunriver.
Of particular note at APhA, our faculty member Dr. Andrew Bzowyckyj was honored with the APhA Distinguished Achievement Award in Service. Dr. Bzowyckyj and Dr. Huy Hoang each presented topics at APhA. P2 student Angel Mendez represented us well in the APhA National Patient Counseling Competition. And an innovative group of our P3 students rented their own vendor booth to promote their new multilingual patient counseling app LitKit [link to story].
At the OSHP Annual Seminar, alumnus Dr. Alex Winn PharmD ’ 10 received the Distinguished Service Award for his efforts toward community pharmacy services and medical missions, while alumnus Dr. Matt Maglalang PharmD ’09 presented on “New drugs in acute care.” Faculty member Dr. Melanie Foeppel was awarded the Excellence in Education Award to recognize and honor her sustained contributions to the advancement of pharmacy education. In addition, multiple students, alumni, and faculty collaborated on poster presentations at OSHP, including Max Lee and Kevin Hom who won Best Student Poster, and Jeffrey Li and Isabelle Wong, who won Runner Up for Best Student Poster. Students Alvin Leung and Skyler Suchovsky each won competitive OSHP Scholarships.
The school also hosted alumni and friends events at both meetings, bringing together alumni, students, preceptors, faculty, and other friends of the program to share in fun conversation while enjoying some great food. If you plan to attend a regional or national pharmacy meeting, remember to look us up and join us for an alumni and friends event!
