Pacific Hall Update | Week of Sept. 11

Many of the construction activities this week continue from last week. Next watershed dates will occur towards the end of the month, with the pouring of the new ramps at the exterior of the building and cover inspections in the interior for the beginning of drywall installation. For now, brace walls continue to be installed on level 1, MEP and fire sprinkler work continues throughout the building, and windows continue to be installed. 

Seismic Upgrade

Brace wall and helical anchor installation on level 1 will continue through Sept. 20.

Steel reinforcement at the east and west stairwells is ongoing this week, with brace wall framing beginning on Sept. 14 in the stairwells. Scaffolding for out-of-reach areas arrives on Sept. 19, and framing and anchoring will pick back up from Sept. 21. Anchor install is scheduled for completion by Sept. 26.

The concrete infill layer between the backfill material and new vapor barrier at the new shear walls on level 1 was poured on Sept. 14. Final floor slab pour backs in these locations will take place Sept. 19 and Sept. 25. Please be advised that there will be noise associated with concrete trucks using the north fire lane on these dates.

Site & Exterior Work

Prepping, pouring, and grinding of the topping slab inside the main entry vestibule has pushed out a few days, from Sept. 21 to 29. Field measurement for the new main entry storefront will take place on Sept. 27.

Existing exterior ramps & stairs will be demolished on Sept. 21. After a couple days for backfill & compaction and geotechnical inspection, the new ramps at the main entry and east stair will be poured on Sept. 27. Please be advised that there will be noise associated with the demolition on Sept. 21, and with concrete trucks using the north fire lane on Sept. 27.

Exterior stair and ramp railings will be installed from Sept. 28 to Oct. 10.

Roofing demo and saw cutting for placement of the new mechanical curb for the RTU will take place on Sept. 20, 21, and 25. Please be advised that there will be some noise associated with this demo, particularly for the saw cutting on Sept. 25.

Mechanical curb install and roof patching will take place during the week of Sept. 25. Roof concrete patching will take place on Sept. 26, concurrent with other concrete pours on that date. Please be advised that there will be noise associated with concrete trucks using the north fire lane on these dates.

The new rooftop mechanical unit will be installed by Oct. 9.

Washing and sealing of the existing exterior brick will begin on Oct. 6. This work will continue through the month of October around the perimeter of the building.

Windows

Window installation at shear wall locations on level 2 is ongoing this week, with completion scheduled for Sept. 19.

Prep work for window installation on level 1 is underway. This prep work will continue through Sept. 22 while window install wraps up on level 2. Window install throughout level 1 will begin on Sept. 25 and continue through Oct. 13.

Interior Work

MEP & low-voltage install and fire sprinkler rough-in on level 2 is wrapping up by the end of this week, with a few minor exceptions. Fire sprinkler head installation will take place later once ceiling grid is installed.

Soffit framing and remaining wall framing on level 2 zone 1 is ongoing through this week and into next, with completion scheduled for Sept. 21. Soffit framing in zone 2 will take place from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2.

Level 2 cover inspections are scheduled for Sept. 22 (zone 1) and Oct. 3 (zone 2). Insulation and drywall in zone 1 will begin following cover inspection on Sept. 25 and continue through the second week of October. Zone 2 insulation and drywall will follow this work, beginning on Oct. 4 and continuing through the first few weeks of October.

On level 1, light fixture removal and fire-sprinkler rough-in is ongoing. This work will continue through the remainder of the month of September, with completion scheduled for Sept. 29. Remaining MEP rough-in will pick back up on Sept. 26 and continue through Sept. 28.

Framing & backing on level 1 is scheduled to take place from Sept. 21 to 28. Level 1 cover inspections are scheduled for Sept. 29, with insulation and drywall beginning the first week of October.

MEP rough-in in the new restrooms is wrapping up this week. Drywall will take place in these spaces concurrent with other drywall work during the second full week of October.

Fire sprinkler rough-in, electrical rough-in, and framing in the main entry and lobby will take place during the first week of October, beginning on Oct. 2. Lobby ceiling painting will take place from Oct. 6 to Oct. 10.

The wood plinth beneath the main stair will be sanded and re-finished by Oct. 4 and Oct. 5.

Upcoming Campus Events & Coordination

  • Sept. 23 | Oktoberfest. Site to be closed and secured for the weekend in typical fashion. Event preparations will not impact the project during the week leading up to the event.
