Pacific Hall Update | Week of Aug. 14
The construction team successfully completed the first two shear walls the week of Aug. 14. However, due to the high heat, we had to postpone the remaining two shear walls. To stay on schedule, we plan to shoot six walls the week of Aug. 21.
Many of the same scopes of work are ongoing from last week, and the site remains busy each day as crews make progress in all parts of the building and aspects of the project
Demo
All HVAC demolition that can be completed prior to finishing the remaining abatement work has been completed. Final HVAC demo activities will be completed by Tuesday, Aug. 22.
Plaster demo at the windows and roofing demo for the new mechanical curb has been pushed out to the week of Aug. 28. This is a resequencing of work and does not impact the overall construction schedule. All demolition activities are scheduled for completion by Thursday, Aug. 31.
Seismic Upgrade
Shear wall rebar placement in zone 1 was completed the week of Aug. 14. Zone 2 rebar placement will continue ahead of the the final shear wall pour on Sept. 6.
Shotcrete pours in zone 2 are scheduled for Aug. 29 (level 1) and Sept. 6 (level 2). This will mark the completion of the crux of the seismic upgrade and represent a milestone for the project. The shotcrete work on these days will produce a significant amount of noise from trucks and the concrete pump.
Floor slab pour-backs occurred on Aug. 12.
Brace wall construction at the exterior brick wall is ongoing this week and will continue through Sept. 12. The helical anchors used to affix the new steel framing and reinforce the brick were successfully tested on Aug. 15 and passed inspection without issue.
Steel reinforcement, brace wall construction, and helical anchor install in the east and west stairwells is scheduled to begin Sept. 5 and continue through Sept. 15. This is the final scheduled activity related to the seismic upgrade of the building.
Site Work
The trench for fire sprinkler tie-in east of the building adjacent to Trombley Square was back filled. Fire riser install is scheduled to begin on Aug. 30 and be completed by Sept. 6. During this time, crews will be working outside and making noise in the landscape area east of the building adjacent to Trombley Square.

Prep work and pouring of the new topping slab at the main entry vestibule will take place from Aug. 30 to Sept. 6. During this time, crews will be working at the main entry at the SE corner of Pacific Hall. Framing in the new vestibule will take place beginning Sept. 13.
Windows
Window installation is ongoing throughout the building. The team installed the non-shear wall windows in level 2, zone 1 this week. Non-shear wall windows in level 2, zone 2 are scheduled for install the week of Aug. 28.
QED was on-site Thursday, Aug. 17, and completed the first day of window testing.
Window installation around the shear walls will commence upon completion of the shear walls in each zone. Window install at the first two shear walls in the art gallery began during the latter half of this week. Shear wall window install is scheduled to continue through Sept. 15.
Interior Work
Framing of the new spaces on level 2 was completed Aug. 17.
MEP and fire sprinkler rough-in is ongoing over the course of this week. This work will continue through Aug. 29. Access control rough-in took place Aug. 17 and Aug. 18.
Low-voltage rough-in for new data cabling on level 2 between Aug. 28 and Sept. 15.
Insulation and drywall will be installed on level 2 from Sept. 1 to 15. Drywall cover inspections are scheduled immediately before this work on Aug. 29.
Wall framing, MEP rough-in and fire sprinkler rough-in for the new level 1 restrooms will take place from Aug. 28 to Sept. 15. Plumbing has been tied in at these spaces and the floor slab poured back.
Upcoming Campus Events & Coordination
- Aug. 24 and Aug. 25 | Move-In Day for students. Athletes began returning to campus on Aug. 9. The project site will shut down on Aug. 25, with no construction activities taking place. The footprint of the construction fence will be reduced and the fire lane and walkway between Pacific Hall and Trombley Square will be re-opened for student move-in.
