Pacific Hall Construction Update | Week of June 5
In general, the bulk of the work at Pacific Hall for the next two to three weeks will primarily comprise demolition, abatement, utility safe off and delivery of materials and storage containers to the site. The level of noise impact and construction presence will not increase significantly over what has been experienced over last week, but the presence of various subcontractors and construction vehicles of various sizes will continue.
Construction Activities, Status & Impacts
The construction fence around Pacific Hall closes the building to users for the remainder of the calendar year. Access to the area inside the construction fence, including the fire lane, is limited to project personnel, and PPE is required for anyone entering inside the fence. Please be advised that the gates at the fire lane may be propped open during the day to allow access for vehicles and crews, but that the fire lane is closed to non-project personnel.
Walsh Construction has completed the laydown area inside the fence to the west of the building. Materials and storage containers for construction tools and equipment, as well as ancillary furniture stored within the building, were delivered over the course of last week and will continue to be delivered over the course of this week. Walsh and Dixon Demolition are also loading demolished material into dumpsters in this location. There will be some noise associated with this work as well as the presence of trucks and construction vehicles entering and exiting the site via the construction gate at the west fire lane.
Inside the building, Walsh continues to place floor and wall protection and temporary protection of the center staircase, furniture and equipment stored in spaces.
The scaffolding subcontractor were on-site this week to construct scaffolding at the central staircase to allow access for demo and abatement of the ceiling above the staircase and walls immediately adjacent to the stair on level 2. They will have trucks on-site in the fire lane and/or inside the fence at the main entrance to unload materials and equipment.
American Heating shut off water to the building Tuesday, June 6, to perform selective demo of some existing plumbing within the building. Until water is restored, construction personnel have been instructed to use the restrooms in the Washburne UC and lower level of Marsh Hall. Please be advised that users in these spaces may see some construction personnel entering and exiting those spaces to use the restroom.
Dixon Demolition continues to perform demo work on the second floor of the building. Within the next one to two weeks, the Dixon team will rotate downstairs to begin interior demolition on the first floor. There will continue to be noise impacts associated with this work but should not exceed the current noise levels. Window removal is currently on hold pending resolution of questions regarding means, methods, and scope responsibility, and preliminary abatement work. This has not yet impacted the construction schedule.
PMG Abatement Contractors continues to perform abatement around the perimeter of the first floor to make ready for window demolition. Once the scaffolding is constructed and selective demo is complete on the second floor, PMG will move upstairs to begin abating the second floor.
Move Transition
Remaining UIS items identified last week have been removed as necessary, and all remaining items have been adequately protected by UIS to an adequate level of risk as assessed by UIS.
Connexes for storage of Pacific furniture and equipment will be delivered by Wednesday, June 7. Pacific facilities, with assistance from Walsh, can begin relocating ancillary furniture in the building to these connexes beginning on Thursday, June 8.
