NHOH Tapa Flower Making Workshop
NHOH and the Pacific Islanders of Intel (POI) will host a tapa flower making workshop on Nov. 28, 2023, 6-7:30 p.m. in the MPR.
Tapa to the Pacific Islands is what Papyrus was to Egypt an old version of paper. Tapa is made from the bark of paper mulberry trees. Its produced throughout Polynesia, tapa is a versatile fabric, used to pass down generations of history, clothing, ceremonial purposes and a multitude of other things.
Learn about the history and use of tapa in many Polynesian cultures. Participants will have the opportunity to create two tapa flowers, one to keep and one to include in a nonprofit organization holiday food box donated to a needy family.
All craft supplies, pizza, drinks, and Intel goodie bags will be provided for each participant!
Please note: Bring a pair of scissors to the workshop.
The workshop is free, however, there are only 30 spots available. As space is limited, please register in advance.
If you register and are unable to attend, please email Aunty Jana, at auntyjana@pacificu.edu, so that a spot can be opened up for someone else.
