In the News: Professor Laura Edwards-Leeper Discusses Denmark's Pioneering Decision to Declassify Transgenderism as a Mental Health Disorder

Pacific University School of Graduate Psychology associate professor Laura Edwards-Leeper provided analysis of Denmark's recent decision to declassify transgender behavior as a mental health disorder. 

Edwards-Leeper, an international expert on the psychological elements related to transgenderism and identity issues, provided analysis of Denmark's decision to Scientific American for its piece, "Where Transgender is no longer a diagnosis," which published Jan. 6, 2017.

Edwards-Leeper told Scientific American's Francine Russo, "it's sending the message that an increasing number of people across the globe do not perceive transgender people as ‘crazy,’ but as valuable members of society worthy of respect and human rights like everyone else.”
