MFA Faculty Kao Kalia Yang and Shara McCallum Awarded 2023 Guggenheim Foundation Fellowships

The MFA in Writing is honored to announce that two members of our faculty, nonfiction writer Kao Kalia Yang and poet Shara McCallum, have been awarded 2023 Guggenheim Foundation Fellowships.

Both writers have been teaching in the program for a number of years, have brought powerful ideas and lessons to our students and Writers Conference participants, and both have been instrumental in the program's diversity efforts, leading sessions of our Strata Masterclass for Writers of Color.

Congratulations to both writers, and thanks for making our program and our students a part of your lives.

MFA Faculty Poet Shara McCallum Awarded 2022 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award

MFA faculty poet Shara McCallum's sixth book, No Ruined Stone, has won the 2022 Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy Award. The Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation’s Annual Legacy Awards Ceremony honors the best in Black literature in the United States and around the globe.
